Part-Time Technical Director Spring 2025 Performance

The Bunker Hill Community College Performing Arts Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Technical Director for its Spring 2025 black-box production. The successful candidate will play a vital role in developing the technical aspects of a small-scale department production, while collaborating with the stagecraft course enrollment to assist with core projects. The BHCC Theatre Program produces actor-focused productions and strives to support this work with technical elements that are limited in scope but elevate the experience for all.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Theatre Program Coordinator and Production Director to develop and execute technical vision for a black-box production, scheduled for April 2025.

  • Coordinate core projects with Stagecraft course instructor and students.

  • Schedule and lead student tech crew involvement throughout production period.

  • Maintain and oversee scene shop and technical equipment rental.

  • Purchase/order building materials and manage a limited budget.

  • Build/implement Set and Lighting designs, encouraging student work whenever possible.

  • Supervise load-ins/strikes, and ensure the safety of everyone working on productions.

  • Lead technical rehearsals during early implementation of design elements.


  • Job Requirements:

  • BA/BFA in Theatre, or a related field. Plus, significant professional experience in technical theatre.

  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple technical areas.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to teach and mentor students in a diverse and collaborative academic environment.

  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and best practices.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • MFA in Theatre Design, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated expertise in set construction, props coordination, lighting, and sound.

  • Previous academic theatre experience, particularly at the college or university level.

  • Experience designing or overseeing technical elements for theatre productions.

  • Ability to manage and maximize a limited budget.


  • Additional Information:

    Salary: $35.31 an hour at 18.5 hours a week. Part-Time Non-Benefited position
