Job Description:

The Department of Engineering Science and Applied Engineering Technology is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track Mechanical Technology faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Mechanical Technology courses and laboratories in areas such as machine tools, CNC machining Programming, engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, metallurgy, and solid modeling. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.

The successful candidate will be qualified to teach some or all the following classes and labs:

MET 151 Machine Tools I (classes and labs)
MET 161 Engineering Drawing 1 (classes and labs)
MET 171 Manufacturing Processes (classes and labs)
MET 252 Metallurgy (classes and labs)
MET 254 Numerical Control Programming (classes and labs)
MET 270 Solid Modeling
Experience and knowledge of CNC machining is a plus.

Knowledge of electro-mechanical applications in demand by local industry is also valued, including, but not limited to: pneumatics, robotics, soldering and electronic assembly, electrical test & measurement, mechanical assembly techniques, motors & controllers, sensors & machine vision, and industrial control systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be responsive to student questions and available for student support;
Use appropriate technology to enhance learning;
Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives;
Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education;
Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion;
Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes;
Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester; and,
Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials.

Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Appointment at the Rank of Instructor:

Associate's degree in the subject technology area or closely-allied field.
Industry-recognized professional license or certification; and
Minimum of five years of full-time related industry experience.

Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely-allied field.
Industry-recognized professional license or certification; and
Minimum of three years of full-time employment in Engineering or closely allied field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Background in teaching college level courses.
Demonstrated connections with local industry.
Experience in the following areas:
Manual Vertical & Horizontal Mills
Engine Lathe
3 Axis Vertical CNC Milling
CNC Programming

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Practical hands-on, design, or technology management experience in the application of mechanical technology.
Familiar with the following engineering software programs:
Autocad, Inventor, Solidworks, Creo, Fusion 360
LabView, PLC Programming, CNC Programming
Matlab, Python

Additional Information:

The 2025-2026 starting salary for the rank of Instructor is $53,045 and Assistant Professor is $59,676.
