MCCC STEM Laboratory Technician

Massasoit Community College's STEM Division seeks a Laboratory Technician to support its STEM research program and cell culture core. The technician will collaborate with the STEM Program Coordinator to prepare chemical reagents, manage ecological fieldwork, and maintain the undergraduate research lab, including scheduling interns, ordering supplies, and ensuring safety. Additionally, the role involves providing cell cultures for research and coursework, organizing data and artifacts for outreach, and communicating project outcomes. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, skilled in laboratory management, and passionate about ecology and cell biology education and research.

Essential Functions:

Support the STEM research program coordinator in ensuring the continued success of the college's undergraduate research program
Support ecological field work for college's native pollinator research project
Coordinate cell culture core and prepare cells for both pollinator research project and for use in biology courses
Oversee collection curation for native pollinator research project
Prepare results and samples for outreach presentations

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree with equivalent combination of education, training and experience, in a STEM or a related field.
Experience in the areas of ecology, entomology, ecological field work, sample preparation and preservation
Familiarity cell culture
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and make decisions
Strong computer skills, including the ability to use and create spreadsheets and databases to maintain historical records of specimens and fieldwork site data.

Preferred:

Experience with cell culture
Familiarity with native pollinator taxonomy and monitoring techniques
Experience with collection and curation of insect collections
Proficiency in database management and inventory control software

Additional Information:
Position Status: MCCC union position, full time, state funded with benefits. 12-month position.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Monday through Friday (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) with occasional work on weekends and evenings, as needed.

Salary: $50,262.00 - $56,914.00 per year; Salary is commensurate and based on the MCCC Classification Study

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
