Job Duties:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Bucknell University invites applications for a visiting assistant professor appointment in the 2025-26 academic year, starting August 2025. We seek individuals with enthusiasm for teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution, and a desire to engage students in the classroom and laboratory on subjects in the areas of water resources and/or environmental engineering. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses with small class sizes (typically 10-35 students) that facilitate close student-faculty interaction in a hands-on, interactive learning community. The University sponsors a range of developmental activities for faculty, supported by a well-resourced Teaching and Learning Center. Although this is a full-time teaching position, candidates are welcome to further their scholarship by utilizing Bucknell's excellent experimental facilities and computational resources.

Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate or be ABD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or another closely related field at the time of appointment, and a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. The ideal candidate would have teaching abilities in environmental and water resources engineering, such as introductory environmental engineering and science, first year engineering design, GIS, fluid mechanics, as well as other core civil and environmental engineering courses.

Applicants must include a cover letter explaining how this position aligns with their career goals, a current curriculum vitae, a teaching statement (2 pages maximum), and a statement of scholarly interests (1 page maximum). In the teaching statement, applicants should:
  • articulate their interest in teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution;
  • reflect on any previous teaching experience(s);
  • discuss their approach to student-centered and engaging teaching in classroom and laboratory settings; and
  • describe their commitment to inclusive pedagogy and supporting a student body with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. (The applicant should include any relevant experience, expertise, or plans in these areas.)

Applicants also must provide references upon request. Applications are only accepted through Bucknell's career site. Please go to https://careers.bucknell.edu/ to apply. Questions about the position should be addressed by email to search committee chair, Richard Crago (rcrago@bucknell.edu). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
